Pakistan ahead in Basmati rice: In the case of Basmati rice, Pakistan has overtaken India, India's Basmati reputation has fallen.

There has always been a dispute between India and Pakistan, but now a new competition is being seen between the two countries regarding Basmati rice and now Pakistan has overtaken India in terms of rice export. According to the Pakistan Statistical Bureau report, in January 2024 alone, Pakistan increased by 64%, on the other hand, India's exports fell drastically.

Since the beginning, there has always been tension between India and Pakistan regarding Basmati rice, not only this, both the countries are face to face regarding GI Tech regarding Basmati rice and this case is still going on in the European Union.

India's decision which benefited Pakistan.

In August 2023, India had made the minimum export price of Basmati rice $1200 per tonne (MEP). This decision of India had boosted Pakistan's Basmati rice, whereas earlier India's ENP was higher than Pakistan. However, in view of its loss, India reduced its (MEP) minimum export price from $1200 per tonne to $950 in October 2023, but by then Pakistan's export had increased significantly. The main reason for this is not only Pakistan's export but also the basic rupee of Pakistan. When the (MEP) minimum export price of rice export was $1000-1050 per tonne, then Pakistan's rice export was Rs 250 per dollar against the Pakistani rupee.
