Anti Rape Bill: Anti-rape bill approved in Kolkata Assembly, provision of strict punishment has been made, death sentence to the culprit within 10 days.
Last month, when the doctor rape murder case came to light from Kolkata's RG Hospital, after the demonstration by doctors and political parties across the country, Mamata Banerjee said that she would make a strict law for crimes like rape in the state and she had also written a letter to the Prime Minister twice regarding this provision. With a big decision regarding rape, the Anti-Rape Bill was approved in the Assembly of West Bengal in the first week of September. Under this new law, the investigation of the rape case will have to be completed in 21 days and apart from this, there is a provision for the culprit to be hanged within 10 days if the victim goes into coma or dies. The name of this bill is Aparajita Mahila and Bal Bill 2024 (West Bengal Criminal Law and Amendment). BJP has also supported the bill regarding this bill.
New provisions of the bill.
1 According to this bill, if the rape victim dies or goes into coma, then the culprit will be hanged.
2 Rape-gangrape convicts will be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
3 Investigation of rape case will have to be completed in 21 days. It can be extended by 15 days.
4 'Aparajita Task Force' will be formed in every district. It will be led by DSP level officer.
