Within 26 hours after Rahul Gandhi was sentenced to 2 years for defamation, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a schedule and declared him as a non-commissioned Member of Parliament on March 23.

Lok Sabha membership of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has been canceled the very next day after he was sentenced to 2 years in a defamation case. Within 26 hours of the Surat court's decision, the central government was informed in the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Last Friday, a notification was issued regarding Rahul's disqualification from Parliament.

Wayanad Lok Sabha seat was declared vacant.

According to the website of the Lok Sabha, it is being told that now there are 3 seats. Jalandhar Lakshdeep and Wayanad are vacant. Rahul had won from Wayanad in the 2019 general election.

Congress got the support of opposition parties.

Congress is also getting the support of opposition parties, said it was because of raising questions on the government. The proceedings are being seen from different elements, at present Rahul's statements are converging and a day before, the leaders who supported the BJP front have also come in support of the Congress.

Will not be able to contest elections for eight years!

Where is it going that Rahul will not be able to contest elections for 2 years during the sentence and after that for 6 years under the Representation of the People Act. If this happens then in the general elections of 2024 and 2029, there may be a problem in front of the Congress. Now that the stay has been lifted from the court, Rahul will have a chance to contest the elections. Before the notification was issued, Rahul reached the Lok Sabha on Friday morning to take part in the proceedings of the Parliament and also attended the meeting of MPs.

Why is the court not stopping you?

Surat's Chief Judicial Magistrate HH Verma, after convicting Rahul, had stayed the sentence for the third day with bail granted for appeal. However, according to the Representation of the People Act, if there is a ban on conviction along with punishment, then their membership is saved from cancellation.
